Dallas Shooting: Police Confirm Death of Suspect Micah Johnson, Take 3 Others into Custody as Standoff Comes to an End – VIDEO
The hours-long standoff
in Dallas has finally come to an end after the police neutralized an armed
suspect they had been negotiating with earlier today.
The
suspect who had not been co-operative ‘holed himself up’ in a second
floor garage and exchanged fire with the police for hours. He is said to have
threatened that “the end is coming, and bombs have been placed all over the
garage in downtown Dallas.”
According to the Telegraph, Mayor
Rawlings and the Police Chief David Brown said a fourth suspect died after
officers used explosives to neutralise him.
Chief Brown also
confirmed that the suspect was upset over the recent police shootings of
black men and wanted to kill white people. Brown released this statement
at a news conference today, adding that the suspect made the comments
before he was killed by an explosive used by the police.
Three other
suspects have also been arrested and taken into police custody.
The snipers
opened fire on police officers during a peaceful protest in downtown Dallas on
Thursday night over the recent fatal shootings of black men in Louisiana and
Minnesota. The shooting left five police officers dead and left six others
severely injured.
The police are
currently sweeping the area where the standoff took place and have found
no explosives so far.
UPDATE:
The shooter has been
identified as Micah Xavier Johnson. CNN reports that Johnson was an
army veteran. He was trained in the Army Reserve as a carpentry and
masonry specialist. Dallas Police Chief in his press briefing said the suspect
Johnson spoke with their hostage negotiator.
Johnson is
reported as saying he “was not affiliated with any groups and that he carried
out the shootings alone.”
This is getting
out of hand!
