Any Move to Impeach Buhari will be Resisted as it was done in Turkey – APC
The umbrella
body of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) governors, the Progressives
Governors Forum, on Saturday warned that any attempt to impeach President
Muhammadu Buhari will be resisted by the people, Vanguard writes.
Speaking at the
flagging off of the governorship campaign of the party’s candidate in the
September 10 governorship election in Edo state, Mr Godwin Obaseki, chairman of
the forum Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State stated that president Buhari
enjoys the support of the people and any such plot would collapse as it did in Turkey.
There were
indications earlier in the week that the Senate had threatened to impeach
the president following the alleged forgery case against senate president
Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
This comes after
the Senate’s executive session on Tuesday almost degenerated into a free for
all between Senators Dino Melaye and Oluremi Tinubu both of the APC, after the
former proposed a punishment for members in the Senate Unity Forum, SUF who
have pledged to testify against their topmost officers.
Though the
senate has denied any such plot exists, it maintains that there was no case of
forgery of the Standing Orders and asked that the case be withdrawn.
Meanwhile over
two thousand members of the PDP in Edo state, led by a veteran politician Chief
Samson Esemuede, openly defected to the APC yesterday, declaring their support
for the candidate of the party, Mr Obaseki.
