Japan Knife Attack: 15 killed and at Least 45 Wounded
In a bloodbath
now termed the Japan Knife Attack, a man armed with a knife stabbed 15 people
to death and wounded about 45 more at a disabled people’s facility in
Sagamihara, Tokyo.
According to Guardian
UK, a worker at the facility in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, south of
Tokyo, called the police at about 2:30am local time to report that a man with a
knife was at the facility. When the police arrived the scene, the man, now
identified by his family name ‘Uematsu’ had attacked disabled people. One
Japanese media put the death toll of the Japan knife attack at 19, with about
20 people in critical condition, while many more are wounded.
The 26-year-old
attacker was a former employee of the facility and he admitted to carrying out
the attack now branded Japan’s worst attack since the war.
Confirming the
Japan knife attack, the police said they are still verifying the details of the
case, and as at press time, it was still unclear why the former employee
attacked the facility. However, the local media Asahi Shimbun reports
that the suspect said, “I want to get rid of the disabled
from this world.”
