Senate Forgery: Saraki, Ekweremadu Trial Postponed to September 28
The ongoing
trial of Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu and two
others at a Federal High Court sitting in Jabi, Abuja was on Monday postponed
due to the annual vacation of judicial workers.
Unaware of the
development, Saraki and Ekweremadu had to go back after turning up at the
court for Monday’s scheduled hearing.
Both leaders of
the Red Chamber, along with a former clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu
Maikasuwa and the Deputy clerk, Benedict Efeturi are facing a two-count charge
of criminal conspiracy and forgery of the senate standing rules, 2015. All
four accused persons were granted bail June 27 by presiding judge, Justice
Yusuf Halilu.
However, the
court did not sit today owing to the recess, which is expected to last till
September.
“As you can see, the accused persons just arrived but the matter will not be coming up today because the court is on recess,” a source told Daily Post.
“The accused persons will come back later for a date on when the trial will resume but that will be after the judicial vacation which will end sometime in September” he added.
The source
further stated that the court has fixed September 28, 2016 for continuation of
trials.
