Police Arrest 2 Men for Defrauding Car Dealers With Fake Cheques and Bank Alerts
Vanguard reports
that the police arrested two men yesterday who specialise in duping car
dealers in Lagos by issuing fake bank cheques and fake bank alerts.
The suspects
were apprehended when one of their victims raised an alarm
after he discovered that the transaction conducted with them was
fraudulent. The suspects had reportedly succeeded in issuing fake bank alerts
and stealing cars from dealers on several occasions, but they were nabbed
yesterday.
The victim
identified as Ifeanyi stated that he became suspicious of the transaction after
he allegedly received bank transaction alert for the payment of the vehicle. He
decided to follow his suspicion by confirming if the payment had reflected in
his account from the bank only to be informed that no money was deposited
in his account.
Another victim
revealed how the suspects had been almost caught previously:
“The last
time it happened, the bank server was down so they just allowed them to go.
Later we found out that it was a fake alert, God has exposed them today” he
said.
The suspects confessed to have succeeded with two vehicles sometime ago
from the same New Way Park in Berger after being nearly lynched by some angry people.
The
suspects are currently in police custody and the Lagos State Police
spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos disclosed that the case is yet to be reported at
the Kirikiri Police
