Lagos Police Arrests Chinese Businessman Over Plan to Assassinate Nigerian Partner
According to The Nation, the Chinese businessman was arrested in Lagos
Island after police operatives nabbed one Chika Eze, whom he paid N1.4 million
to hire killers.
It was gathered
that Chika had secured the services of two men whom he paid N400,000 to carry
out the task, but the police got wind of the plans and swooped in on them
Thursday afternoon, while they were taking an oath of secrecy.
Confessing to
the crime, Eze said the Chinese discussed the cost of the assassination with
the other two guys, adding that his role was to hire them.
“He is my boss.
He told me to arrange boys to kill his business partner who owes him money. He
discussed the amount with them and then gave me N1.4 million. I had already
given them N400,000. That was why the police found one million Naira on me,”
said Eze.
The Chinese, who
claimed to be an importer of footwear, said he only told Eze to recruit
boys who would do “juju” against the man.
He said the
unnamed business partner owed him over N4million for many years.
“He refused to
pay my money. He went to court when I was not around and claimed that I owed
him N10 million. He got a judgment against me and the court said I should pay.
“He is an Igbo
man and I did not ask them to kill him. I told them to do ‘juju’ against the
man,” Hun said.
While confirming
Hun’s arrest, the Lagos state commissioner of police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, urged
residents to adopt peaceful approaches to resolving conflicts. He added that
the sum of N1m recovered from Eze will be used as exhibit in court.
