60-Year-Old Widower Drowns in Edo Flood; Family Blames State Government
Just days after
Benin residents took to Twitter to share photos of the bad state of roads in
Edo State, a 60-year-old man is reported to have tripped and fallen into a
drain before being swept to his death by a flood.
According to Punch, the
deceased identified as Osarobo Obayuwana, who recently lost his wife, was
on his way home before the tragic incident that happened at First Powerline
Street, Evbuotubu Quarters in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.
Obayuwana was
trying to cross an open drainage system when he reportedly fell in. He called
for help but could not be saved before he was washed away by the flood.
“We were all crying for help but no one came. He went to buy some food for his aged mother before he died while trying to cross over,” Izekor Isoken, his relative, told the press.
“If the drainage had been well done, the man would not have died. We have been abandoned with no good roads. We make payments but we do not get power supply,” she added.
