David Bowie: Music Legend Quietly Cremated In New York City
There won’t be a
gravesite for fans to lay flowers at for the late David Bowie. The rock icon’s
body has been quietly cremated in his beloved New York City. Even in death he’s
continuing on with his wishes to remain an extremely private person.
Oh
no! The body of music legend David Bowie has
been privately cremated following his untimely death from liver cancer at
age 69 on Jan. 10. In line with his wishes, no family or friends were
present at the ceremony, and there will be no public funeral as he wanted only
a private ceremony for only his wife, daughter, son and close friends. In death
as in the last several decades of his life, David wants his life to be
remembered mainly by those he loved the most in
this would.
A message
to his official Facebook page Jan. 14, it read,” THANK YOU. The
family of David Bowie is currently making arrangements for a private ceremony
celebrating the memory of their beloved husband, father and friend. They
ask once again that their privacy be respected at this most sensitive of
times. We are overwhelmed by and grateful for the love and support shown
throughout the world.” How touching!
But they also
wanted to make it clear that any upcoming public tributes to
one of music’s greatest artists are completely independent of David and his
treasured wife
Iman, 60 and their daughter Alexandria,
15, for whom who he stepped away from the public eye to raise quietly in the
Big Apple. “However, it is important to note that while the concerts and
tributes planned for the coming weeks are all welcome, none are official
memorials organized or endorsed by the family,” the statement continued. “Just
as each and every one of us found something unique in David’s music, we welcome
everyone’s celebration of his life as they see fit.”
OJPals,
do you think there should be a public memorial for all of his fans to mourn?
