There are indications that acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu may have been sacked by the presidency. The Guardian reports that the attorney-general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice, Mr Abubakar Malami SAN has directed the acting EFCC boss to vacate his seat and hand over the reins to the director of operations at EFCC. Magu is also to return to the Nigeria Police Force according to sources who spoke with the Guardian. President Buhari had directed the AGF to investigate the corruption claims against Magu and other senior government officials. According to Sahara Reporters, Mr Malami has submitted the report of his investigations into allegations against Magu to the president. But the EFCC has swiftly responded to this claim. “Not true”,  Mr Wilson Uwujaren spokesman of the commission, had succinctly said in response to an SMS enquiry by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Saturday morning.#

No fewer than 15 Boko Haram Fighters were killed after a surprise attack by the sect on soldiers of the 3 Battalion and the 122 Task Force Battalion in Rann, a small community in Borno State on Friday. According to the Nation, the shootout which lasted several hours was believed to be initiated by terrorists dislodged from Sambisa Forest. A military source in the NAF said: “ four wounded soldiers were today evacuated from the battle front in Rann to Maiduguri for medical treatment .” It was gathered that the NAF responded swiftly to a call for evacuation of the wounded soldiers as the four soldiers who were wounded in the firefight, were evacuated by a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Augusta Helicopter, a recent addition to the NAF’s fleet from the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF). Iconic Singer, Sia, has filed for divorce from her husband after just two years of marriage. According to  TMZ , the  Chandelier  singer filed the documents in Los Angeles on grounds that they have ‘irreconcilable differences’. Then they released a joint statement, saying that “ after much soul searching and consideration we have made the decision to separate as a couple. We are, however, dedicated to remaining friends .” The duo got engaged in June 2014 and tied the knot two months later. Not long after, Sia revealed in an interview with Australian radio station Nova 96.9, that being in the spotlight deeply affects their relationship. “ It’s kind of disappointing because we can’t do anything. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is investigating a former Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Power, Godknows Igali, after it discovered that he allegedly spent N1.5bn for the purchase of Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) which were used by the campaign of the immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan for the 2015 presidential election.  The Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Thursday, alleged that 40 SUVs and other vehicles were recovered from an unnamed retired permanent secretary. But quoting unnamed detectives of the EFCC, the Punch stated that the retired permanent secretary Mohammed was referring to was Igali. The EFCC revealed that an artisan who was employed by Igali had tipped them off on the vehicle in the former civil servant’s residence in Abuja.

Professor Akintunde Akinwande of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States may have rejected his nomination as the chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).  Akinwande was reportedly not consulted before being named as NERC chairman. The absence of the MIT professor stalled proceedings at the senate session on Tuesday where 7 persons nominated to the board of the NERC were scheduled to be screened, reports The Nation. Details have emerged of a request made by President Muhammadu Buhari to transfer unspent funds under the N500 billion Special Intervention Fund to other critical areas starved of funds. In a letter to the National Assembly read on the floor of the senate at its plenary on Tuesday, President Buhari requested approval for the transfer of N180, 839, 254, 430 billion from the Special Intervention Fund. The letter conveying the President’s request, dated October 24, 2016, contained a list of some agencies for which the fund is being sought. The Nation  provides a breakdown of the president’s proposal on how the sum requested under the virement is to be spent.

The Los Angeles Police Department has launched a manhunt for the man who took responsibility for the destruction of Donald Trump’s Walk of Fame Star on the Hollywood Boulevard. According to  Deadline , a man named Jamie Otis dressed up like a construction worker took a sledgehammer and pick axe to the star dedicated to Trump in 2007 in recognition of his NBC series, Apprentice. Speaking with the media house, Otis said he wanted to remove the entire slab, auction it off to raise funds for the 11 women who have accused the Republican candidate of groping them. But this is not the first time Trump’s star has been attacked. Deadline reports that in January a reverse swastika was sprayed on the star. In June, a mute sign was painted on it, but these were easily wiped off. In July, a street artist surrounded the star with a wall of tiny razor wire, but this is the first time it is being destroyed. According to  Fox News , the thieves stormed the store in Natick, Massachusetts, and carried out a well organised but pretty crappy raid. It seems that the group, a mix of lads and lasses, stormed in and swarmed a display. Once in swarm mode, the group produced some sort of cutting equipment, perhaps strong scissors, cut the security cords that bound 19 handsets, then ran out of the store cradling handfuls of iPhones.  Fox says that the whole thing took about two minutes, or about the time it takes Siri in the UK to work out what you are saying. The UN has warned it could take days for the full impact of Hurricane Matthew in Haiti to emerge, as the death toll soars to more than 800. The death toll has doubled, and may rise, as rescue teams gain access to southern areas cut off by the storm. The World Food Programme's Carlos Veloso says some of the hard-hit towns can only be reached by air or sea. Many of the deaths in Haiti were in the south-western coast, which suffered the full force of the hurricane this week. Hurricane Matthew is currently battering the coastline of the US state of Florida but has been downgraded to a Category Two storm, with sustained wind speed dropping to 110mph (177km/h). Category Five is the strongest on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale of hurricane intensity. Rescue efforts are under way to assess the destruction left in the wake of the most powerful Caribbean storm in a decade.
