Jungle Justice: 2 Burnt to Death in Makurdi for Lesbianism
Love became
a crime recently in Makurdi, the Benue State capital as two young women were
given the ultimate punishment for being involved in the supposedly abominable
act of Lesbianism.
In a horrific
case of jungle justice in the north-central city, a band of irate, deluded
youths decided to take the laws into their hands when the two young women were
found getting intimate with one another.
The unfortunate
incident occurred at the ‘owner’s occupier area’ in Makurdi slightly before
sundown, when the mob took to the streets in a religion-fuelled rage to
brutalise the pretty young damsels before burning them to cinders in the glare
of passersby.
According to a
unanimous eyewitness of the heinous crime, the unfortunate girls were caught in
the act and stripped to their birthday suits because the youths of Benue
metropolis highly kick against lesbianism or same-sex affairs in general.
They even had
the effrontery to warn other young ladies to shun such ‘ungodly acts’ lest the
same fate befall them.
One wonders when
two wrongs make a right, or what sort of value system condones murder but
frowns at a particular sexual preference.
What then are
the benefits of the laid-down laws if every ‘offended’ party takes it upon
himself to mete out justice?
It’s high time
the authorities got on top of the situation and brought an end to the rising
spate of jungle justice in the land, but given how fast the Gay Rights Bill was
tossed out of the National Assembly, it is a safe bet we’re in for more of such
hellish scenes.
The images from
the scene are rather graphic. WARNING! Not for the faint-hearted.
