MIT Professor Turns Down Buhari’s Appointment as NERC Chairman for Lack of Consultation

Image
Professor Akintunde Akinwande of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States may have rejected his nomination as the chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).  Akinwande was reportedly not consulted before being named as NERC chairman. The absence of the MIT professor stalled proceedings at the senate session on Tuesday where 7 persons nominated to the board of the NERC were scheduled to be screened, reports The Nation. In a list of nominees circulated by the Senate Committee on Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy, records of date of birth, qualification, specialisation, experience and certificate of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were missing in Akinwande’s column. A source within the Senate cited by the media house hinted that Akinwande was currently working on a project at MIT where he works as a professor of electrical engineering and computer science. “ We also learnt that enough consul...

Shocking! Donald Trump’s Walk of Fame Star Vandalised with Sledgehammer

Image
The Los Angeles Police Department has launched a manhunt for the man who took responsibility for the destruction of Donald Trump’s Walk of Fame Star on the Hollywood Boulevard. According to  Deadline , a man named Jamie Otis dressed up like a construction worker took a sledgehammer and pick axe to the star dedicated to Trump in 2007 in recognition of his NBC series, Apprentice. Speaking with the media house, Otis said he wanted to remove the entire slab, auction it off to raise funds for the 11 women who have accused the Republican candidate of groping them. But this is not the first time Trump’s star has been attacked. Deadline reports that in January a reverse swastika was sprayed on the star. In June, a mute sign was painted on it, but these were easily wiped off. In July, a street artist surrounded the star with a wall of tiny razor wire, but this is the first time it is being destroyed. Jamie Otis is yet to be arrested. OJPals,  what do you ...

BlackBerry DTEK60 arrives with 5.5in QHD screen, Snapdragon 820 and USB-C

Image
THE LONG-RUMOURED  BlackBerry DTEK60 is official and arrives as the firm's highest-spec smartphone to date.  The BlackBerry DTEK60. which the firm tells us is aimed at the enterprise, businesses and consumers (so, everybody then), sees the firm eyeing up the likes of Samsung and Apple in the specification stakes, despite no longer making its own smartphones. Built by TCL (no, not TLC), the awfully-named DTEK60 features a 5.5in QHD AMOLED display. An improvement on the 5.2in FHD screen sat on its DTEK50 predecessor. It's had an upgrade under the hood too and packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip, 4GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage, expandable up to 2TB via the on-board micro SD slot. The BlackBerry DTEK60 is the firm's first smartphone to offer USB-C connectivity, and the firm was keen to big-up the fact that the handset retains the 3.5mm audio jack, despite measuring in at just shy of 7mm-thick.  "This is a feature our users love," ...

Thieves have stormed an Apple store and stolen Apple phones

Image
A CLUSTER OF SEVEN CRIMINALS , a sort of dirty half dozen with a plus one, have swaggered into an Apple store, scared some people and stolen enough iPhones for them each to have two and give five away. According to  Fox News , the thieves stormed the store in Natick, Massachusetts, and carried out a well organised but pretty crappy raid. It seems that the group, a mix of lads and lasses, stormed in and swarmed a display. Once in swarm mode, the group produced some sort of cutting equipment, perhaps strong scissors, cut the security cords that bound 19 handsets, then ran out of the store cradling handfuls of iPhones.  Fox says that the whole thing took about two minutes, or about the time it takes Siri in the UK to work out what you are saying. Fox links to the  Boston Globe , which is a relief since we take everything that Fox says with a pinch of grubby salt, and that report says that something else happened recently that was quite similar. It r...
